The redesign of the navigation system began with a Figma prototype, where different structures, hierarchies, and interaction patterns were explored. This stage allowed us to refine user flows, test usability across devices, and validate design decisions before moving into development.
The final menu was implemented in WordPress using modular components to ensure scalability and long-term maintainability. It introduces a clear hierarchy with top-level categories such as Collection, Service, Materials, About us, Contact, Shop, and Contract. Submenus guide visitors quickly from broad categories to specific product families, creating an efficient and intuitive browsing experience.
A central feature is the integrated language and regional selector, which adapts the site for Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Benelux region, and international users. With multilingual options available from the first click, visitors can access content in their preferred context without barriers. The structure was also optimized for consistency and familiarity, applying the same logic across all devices.
One of the key goals of the redesign was to create a minimal and elegant interface that keeps the focus on products and content. Spacing, typography, and subtle transitions contribute to a clean aesthetic, while the responsive structure ensures a seamless experience on smaller screens. This was particularly important as research showed a steady increase in mobile access. On smartphones and tablets, the menu becomes an expandable, touch-friendly system that preserves functionality without adding complexity.

eDoctrina is a K-12 platform where teachers create and deliver assessments, track progress, and guide students through interactive learning. Our team designed and maintains an automated testing program that continuously validates the platform’s most critical flows end-to-end: Teacher workflows: sign-in & roles, assessment authoring and publishing, item banks, assigning tests, grading, feedback, and reporting. Student workflows: secure sign-in, accommodations where applicable, taking interactive tests, instant scoring/feedback, and results review. Platform stability: navigation, permissions, data integrity between modules, and core UI behaviors across common browsers. The suite uses a Page-Object approach and layered test packs (smoke, regression, and feature suites). Tests run on CI for every pull request and nightly on staging, with clear reports for product/engineering. Result: faster releases, fewer regressions, and a measurable increase in confidence for educators using the system every day.

The University of Lausanne conducted an ambitious online study, financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The survey was technically realized with LimeSurvey and enhanced by a custom interaction layer that enabled five specially designed role-playing games.
Participants engaged in a public goods game to test cooperation, a property rights game to balance production, protection, and stealing, and a donation game to measure altruism. Additional interactive decision tasks expanded the behavioral spectrum. Each move was tracked in real time and transmitted back to LimeSurvey, ensuring reliable data capture.
This gamified approach revealed behavioral patterns far beyond what traditional questionnaires could uncover. The data were analyzed by the University of Lausanne, and the findings were published in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. Among other insights, the study showed that emancipative values predict altruistic generosity, while secular values foster productive rather than defensive strategies.
The project demonstrates how interactive game design and rigorous social science can merge to create a survey tool that is both engaging for participants and groundbreaking for research.

On the Swiss Ornithological Institute’s website, users expect answers fast — whether they’re searching for a bird species, a shop item, an expert, or background on a conservation project. With a wide range of content types and four site languages, a traditional search just wasn’t enough.
We developed a high-performance, AI-enhanced search experience, powered by Algolia and deeply integrated into the WordPress backend. Behind the scenes, the engine connects a diverse set of custom post types and taxonomies — including: News, Birds, Events, Shop, FAQ, Projects, Team, and more.
Search results appear instantly as users type — with typo tolerance, synonyms, and ranking strategies tailored to user intent. A federated search layout displays results across multiple content types in parallel, allowing users to immediately spot the most relevant entries. Each result group is styled and structured for clarity.
Dynamic filters (facets) adapt based on the query context and dataset — allowing birds to be filtered by habitat, events by date, or news by topic — all without page reloads.
The search UI is built on Algolia InstantSearch.js: lightweight, responsive, and multilingual. All labels and filters are translated dynamically, ensuring a seamless experience across German, French, and Italian.
To ensure performance at scale, we implemented a Redis-based caching layer, allowing the system to handle thousands of requests per day with minimal latency. This ensures a consistently fast user experience — even as content and traffic grow.
The result is a lightning-fast, intelligent, and scalable search experience that delivers exactly what users need — without friction.

The Swiss Ornithological Institute in Sempach hosts an annual international photo contest at photo.vogelwarte.ch, celebrating the beauty and diversity of birdlife through photography. Each year, approximately 10’000 images are submitted by around 1’500 participants. A panel of esteemed nature photographers selects the most captivating entries, resulting in a collection of stunning photographs that showcase the remarkable flight skills and behaviors of birds.
We developed a streamlined digital platform for the Swiss Ornithological Institute. At the heart of the solution is a lightning-fast jury tool, seamlessly integrated into the WordPress Media Library. Built specifically for large-scale competitions, it enables expert jurors to rate thousands of entries with just a keystroke. Intuitive keyboard shortcuts, fullscreen viewing, and instant star ratings transform the review process into a focused and efficient experience – even under tight timelines.
The contest is structured into four categories – Action, Emotion, General, and Youth – reflecting the many ways birds interact with their environments. Winning photographs are featured in a beautifully curated portfolio each year, available for purchase through the institute’s online shop.
